We have received a number of requests to provide improved security features for products such as gift certificates, script tickets, admission tickets/passes, blank checks and other documents that are exposed to potential fraud through alteration, unauthorized duplication or forgery. Many of your clients are looking for improved security features to better insulate these products from fraud. However, it does no good to add a couple of security features to a document, and then assume that the document is secure from misuse. The primary value of a security feature lies in the ability of the holder to validate the authenticity of the document. This can be accomplished by training personnel who will be receiving the document or, if untrained persons will be initially receiving the document, advising them which security features are on the form and where (and how) to look for them. We recommend a warning band printed on the document to alert the holder as to the nature and location of these security features.
